Rail Yard Engineer Resume
Rail yard engineers usually learn the insights of the work while doing it. Their daily tasks include coupling and switching locomotives, train cars, engines and other different parts and moving them within the rail yard. They usually do this by using a small locomotive called a dinkey and by operating track switches. They have to be attentive at different types of signals, flags, lights and position signals. They collaborate with conductors and rail engineers through radio-telephones or computerized devices in order to communicate relevant information.
Rail yard engineers may also have to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks on engines. They also participate at the work of verifying the mechanical conditions of trains before and after each trip, they manipulate hand brakes and observe water and oil levels and steam pressure. Rail yard engineers have to stick to working schedules and perform their duties with responsibility in order to contribute to safe and proper operations with railroad equipment.
The resume of a rail yard engineer should include some engineering or mechanical training, the ability to drive rail engines and familiarity with railroad equipment and tools.
