There are employers who will hire candidates with only a high school diploma and a little experience in the field, but an apprenticeship or formal training in the area of specialty must be completed. However, there are still a large number of employers who will require a bachelor's degree in surveying or computer science, cartography, geography, civil engineering or other related fields. Land surveyors will also need a surveying license which is usually issued by the state.
