Hearing Officer Resume

Hearing officers are the professionals who work with state or local court administrators and with justice courts and participate at court hearings where they ensure that everybody present is heard, all in the interest of the city.

Their duty is to listen to the request for information of each party involved in a trial and to assert a court ruling by mail to every party.

After listening to both sides of a trial, a hearing officer will afterwards provide input to the presiding judge under the guidance of a court administrator.

These professionals must regularly conduct independent court proceedings, with the goal of assessing certain penalties related to criminal cases.

Another responsibility for hearing officers is presiding over the court during the proceedings and while not under the supervision of court judges. Depending on the presented evidence, hearing officers may decide if the probation of a party should be dismissed or reduced.

Because of various judiciary regulations across the country, the educational requirements for becoming a hearing officer can be different. Those who want to work for the federal government are required to have at least seven years of practicing experience as licensed lawyers.

On a state or city level, candidates with a graduate degree and experience related to the job or a law degree may be accepted. In some cases it is sufficient to be a practicing attorney, while in other cases a master's degree in a law-related field, public administration or business may be required.
