The news writer is a newspaper editor or a journalist and his job is to inform the public about events from different areas through media news. Editors are usually not themselves the authors of reports, but they manage and control the work of others. Sub-editors prepare other materials for publication.

The news writers must follow event information from internal and external policies of economy, culture, sports, social life etc., in accordance with their specialization, including information about personal visits to places where these events take place and interviews of participants and witnesses to these events. The news writers are involved in receiving information by mail, monitoring other news media, sorting, analyzing and processing further the information received; they write editorials, reports and comments on important events, draw up full articles or topics from various areas in magazines and newspapers, seek external authors and collaborators, negotiate about the articles and other contributions from their part, including the specification of the format, content, length and the author's claims, edit materials provided by external collaborators and publish adapted manuscripts, negotiate interviews with prominent personalities, experts and competent employees of the state administration, take those interviews, texts and give them better form before sending them to print and process text documents.

As seen from the duties presented above, writing for newspapers requires abilities to research and report.
